Blues have been hunting for a new head coach since Tony Mowbray’s reported resignation over two weeks ago, and a deal appears to be getting closer.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Birmingham has made a move for Tottenham’s Davies and is in the process of negotiating his signing. This unexpected announcement comes after speculation that the Blues had begun discussions with Chelsea and England icon Frank Lampard.
Who is Chris Davies, Birmingham’s managerial target?
Davies, a former Wales Under-19 international before giving up playing and instead opting for a coaching venture, has around 14 years of high-level experience. The 39-year-old owes a lot to Brendan Rodgers as the FA Cup-winning boss hired Davies at Swansea City for his first big break in 2010.
As an assistant, Davies helped Celtic achieve a domestic treble for only the fourth time in the club’s history. Rodgers’ nearly three years at Celtic Park came to an end when he returned to the Premier League to join Leicester. Prior to Davies’ departure in April 2023, the Foxes won the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
