CHICAGO(CBS) — Steve McMichael, the legendary Chicago Bears player, will be unable to attend his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio.
Due to problems from the ALS that McMichael has been battling for the past three years, the Hall of Fame intends to present McMichael’s honor at home.
McMichael received word that he would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, after decades of waiting.
He has been facing ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) since 2021.
McMichael, affectionately known as “Mongo,” was an important member of the Bears’ legendary defense during their Super Bowl XX triumph season. He is second in club history in sacks (92.5) and third in tackles (814).
Two additional Bears greats, Devin Hester and Julius Peppers, will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.
