According to Alan Nixon, Ipswich Town want to sign Brighton’s Carl Rushworth.
Ipswich Town are preparing for a Premier League return this summer.
Kieran McKenna’s side surprised many by finishing 2nd in the Championship last season and securing back-to-back promotions in spectacular fashion.
The jump will be significant, but there is hope at Portman Road that they will once again overcome the obstacles and adapt to the demands of the top flight.
Rushworth, 22, spent last season on loan at Swansea City. Last season, the young Englishman played in all 46 second-tier games for the Swans, maintaining nine clean sheets.
He has spent the last two seasons in League One and League Two, and he may finally be given an opportunity in the Premier League.
Nixon is reporting that Vaclav Hladky could be on the way out at Portman Road and McKenna has identified Rushworth as a new number one to replace him.
The report states Ipswich Town could either loan or buy him from the Seagulls this summer.
Climbing the ladder
Rushworth has been patient and appears to be on the verge of receiving the opportunity he deserves.
At the age of 22, he has already made over 100 senior appearances for three different clubs. He has yet to show himself in the top flight, but his quality is obvious, and if he lives up to his potential, Ipswich Town might be in possession of a very neat shot stopper.
Learning from other clubs
Last season, Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield United all struggled to adjust to the top division and were relegated in their first year back after being promoted from the Championship.
That demonstrated the distinction between the two categories, as well as how difficult it is to advance these days.
Ipswich Town, Southampton, and Leicester City will all be hoping to establish themselves in the Premier League this season and prevent a quick drop to the Championship. However, their chances are likely to be determined by the success of their summer business.
It’s still early in the summer transfer season, but all three newly promoted sides appear to be busy, which is a positive indication for fans hoping the right moves are made over the next few months.
