CLEVELAND, Ohio — Previous Cavs forward LeBron James was the flagbearer for Group USA on Friday during the blustery opening functions for the 2024 Paris Olympics’ Procession of Countries.

James turned into the third USA ball player and the principal male b-ball player to be the flagbearer at the Olympics. First light Staley got the distinction in the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, and Sue Bird did it for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Tennis player Coco Gauff imparted the distinction to him Friday.

James was moved by his involvement with the initial service. By his organization, as well.

“For me and Coco, for us to have the option to address our country,” James said, “us being Dark children too, address our way of life and address where we come from, it gives everyone such a lot of trust where we come from, and that is all we can request. We take it with the highest level of liability and the greatest amount of honor.”

James joined a huge group of American competitors on a boat on the Seine Stream on a stormy night in Paris. With Gauff close by — both clad in clear rain guards — James weaved his head as he held the banner at the front of the boat.

“The downpour can’t stop us,” James said.
