According to renowned reporter Fabrizio Romano on X, Burnley have signed Chelsea’s youngster Bashir Humphreys on a season-long loan.
The 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship campaign for Burnley has started quickly. The Clarets have scored nine goals and only given up one goal in their first two games.
To acquire highly regarded young defender Humphreys, the Lancashire club has turned to London’s Chelsea and Premier League giants.
In a previous tweet, Romano mentioned that Leeds United might be interested in Humphreys. However, it appears that the battle for the England U21 international has been won by Scott Parker’s team.
Romano discusses some of the specifics surrounding Burnley’s successful pursuit and capture of the Exeter-born child now that the Whites are free to pursue other targets.
He claims that Parker’s side has reached an agreement on a loan deal “with [a] mandatory buy clause.” Humphreys’ contract will then become a five-year one, according to Romano.
A gander at Burnley man Humphreys Humphreys is the product of Chelsea’s youth program. In July 2019, he transferred from Reading’s Under-18s to the Blues.
He has not been able to rise to the top of the ranks of world-class talent that are in front of him, like other promising young players at Stamford Bridge.
As a result, he has only appeared in two Blues first-team games. These were matches in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon and the FA Cup against Manchester City, respectively.
In both games, he played the full 90 minutes. Aside from that, he has experience playing for Chelsea on loan. This has happened during a half-season with 2. SC Paderborn is in the Bundesliga.
Humphreys made 12 appearances for the second-tier German team and contributed one assist. He also has loan experience in the Championship, which will be beneficial to Burnley.
This was accomplished during his season-long loan at Swansea City, where he played 24 games and scored once against Norwich City.
The capture of Humphreys helps Burnley win. After being relegated from the Premier League the previous season, Burnley appear to be a safe bet to immediately return.
They have made smart purchases, bringing Mike Tresor (KRC Gent), Maxime Esteve (Montpellier), and Lucas Pires (Santos) to Turf Moor, among others.
Humphreys joining this group of new Clarets will only make Burnley’s team stronger than it already is. According to Romano, Burnley view him as a “key defender for now and the future,” which indicates the significance of their decision to sign him.
