DONE DEAL: West Brom beat Birmingham City to sign a £20m star player

The seventh player that West Bromwich Albion has signed during the summer transfer window is almost here.
After weeks of speculation, the Baggies are about to finalize the signing of versatile Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles.

The 23-year-old Hungary international Styles was getting closer to leaving Oakwell Stadium with a Championship team in advanced negotiations, it was announced last week. Many thought it was West Brom since they showed interest. As it happens, it was.

Our sister publication, Yorkshire Post, reports Styles is now “set to complete a move to West Brom” after terms were agreed between the player and two clubs. The Hungary international will depart Barnsley following an eight-year stay in South Yorkshire.

West Brom are set to seal their man ahead of one of their local rivals as Alan Nixon reported in July that fellow West Midlands side Birmingham City held a strong interest. The player was keen to say his farewells to League One in favour of a move to the Championship, though, bringing an end to Blues’ chances.

Although the specifics of the soon-to-be finalized agreement between the Baggies and Styles are unknown, Styles was rumored to have a release clause worth about £2 million, and Barnsley was eager to receive a player in exchange if that amount wasn’t met.

Styles is a flexible option for Albion, able to play almost anywhere in midfield or even as a wing-back. The 24-year-old, who played just 808 minutes during a disastrous loan at Sunderland, will be eager to get back to his previous level of play.
