This week, Derby County hopes to add even more players to their roster.
Derby County’s summer transfer window of 2024 has been uneventful thus far.
Early summer arrivals of first-team players at Pride Park allowed Paul Warne ample opportunity to integrate them before the 2024–25 Championship campaign.
In the Rams’ first three games of the season, a number of those faces have already proven why they were signed.
Kenzo Goudmijn’s £820,000 capture thrilled Derby County supporters, while the addition of Jacob Widell Zetterstrom to the team has also sparked enthusiasm.
On the pitch, however, Ben Osborn had an impact this past Saturday against Middlesbrough, helping the recently promoted team win their first game of the year.
But there are still expected to be new additions at Pride Park before August 30th, with Derby likely wanting a striker through the door sooner rather than later.
SC Heerenveen and Derby County are competing for a Celtic defender.
Warne might now want to bring in another defender this summer in addition to a new striker.
This comes after Kane Wilson and Eiran Cashin suffered injuries against Boro, which will prevent them from playing this weekend, dealing Derby a double injury blow ahead of Watford.
Gustaf Lagerbielke is one guy who could lighten the load on the Rams’ thin backfield.
The Daily Record claims that Lagerbielke is in negotiations to sign with SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands, although Celtic would rather that the defender leave on a permanent basis.
The report adds that Derby are also interested in the stopper, whom Celtic paid £3m for in August 2023, as per Transfermarkt.
Gustaf Lagerbielke, a Derby target, draws motivation from Virgil van Dijk
Lagerbielke was signed by Celtic last summer from Swedish team IF Elfsborg, as was previously announced.
The 24-year-old said he gets inspiration from Liverpool center-back Virgil van Dijk after moving to Scotland, according to Sky Sports News.
“Virgil van Dijk, who has been here before, is a huge inspiration,” the speaker stated.
In addition, he exudes professionalism off the field and is constantly striving to improve. He is also a really good player on the field thanks to his leadership, passing, and duelling abilities.
“He is an inspiration; he did a lot of good things and was a great player for Celtic.”
Lagerbielke’s first season in Glasgow was not very successful; he only made seven league appearances and didn’t play for 90 minutes until September 2023.
However, he is a Swedish international and would provide some quality to a Derby defense that allowed four goals in their 2024–2025 season opener.
