Under Armour is releasing a special sneaker set in honor of Kelsey Plum’s birthday.
While player-exclusive sneakers are a dream for many basketball fans, they are rarely made available to the general public.
But for guard Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces, Under Armour has been going above and beyond, and this is only going to get better on her birthday.
Under Armour revealed earlier today that the “Plum” sneaker set will be available to commemorate Plum’s upcoming 30th birthday on August 24, 2024.
Plum has been at the top of her game over the past few seasons, helping the Aces win back-to-back WNBA championships and contributing to Team USA’s historic streak of Olympic gold medals.
Plum has been perfecting the Breakthru 5, which she has worn for the entire previous season, in tandem with Under Armour. The purpose of the performance model is to better customize the shoe to the on-court requirements of female basketball players.
Along with her Team USA sneakers, the Breakthru 5 “Plum” will be among the first player-exclusive (PE) hues that fans may obtain.
The “Plum” colorway boasts a purple and orange design inspired by both the fruit and Kelsey’s last name, with one-of-a-kind Kelsey Plum fruit stickers to give that authentic fruit feel. There are also “dew” droplets scattered around the shoe to emulate the look of a fresh plum.
Perfect for lady hoopers, the Breakthru 5 offers an elevated design, with a synthetic suede overlay offering lightweight stability and enhanced support for the female anatomy and movement patterns. Athletes and fans buy the basketball shoes for $135 in adult sizes on the Under Armour website.
Basketball fans can watch Plum debut the hoop shoe in tonight’s game against the Minnesota Lynx (9:30 p.m. EST on ESPN) and wear them again throughout the rest of the WNBA season.
Under Armour will release a limited-edition “Plum” Apparition lifestyle sneaker in addition to the hoops shoe, along with a special t-shirt for fans to further join in on the fun. On the Under Armour website, adult sizes of the UA Apparition “Plum” cost $110.
The Breakthru 5 “Plum” is also sold through Dick’s Sporting Goods, and the Under Armour “Plum” Pack may be bought on UA.com right now.
