Keon Sabb is an expert in picking picks for Week Three, stating, “What a difference a few weeks makes.”
The Grand Geek had descended from the opulent Almost Perfect Picks Department to my tiny office. As was typically the case when he exited the Executive Suite, his gang of Nerds, who work on weekly Southeastern Conference football forecasts, were watching from outside the War Room during their morning break.
“Slowly but surely we are moving away from the creampuffs and into real football,” the coach said. “It makes it a little more competitive for the boys (he thumbed towards the Break Room), but we welcome that.”
I remarked, “I guess it would not be much fun if all the games were routs, but I saw last week that when the Crimson Tide led South Florida by only a score entering the fourth quarter, the Alabama fans was not too thrilled.” “Even though it was only a 60-minute game and the final score was 42–16, it felt like a far worse game than that absurd one in Tampa last year.”
GG looked thoughtfully lost. “One thing about that,” he continued, “is that a lot of people could not see it because Big Mouse and Big Cable were fighting over money, of all things.”
“That also hurts us because we typically have videotapes of every team, which we use in our ongoing, in-depth research to achieve excellence.”
I remained silent, but expressed my gratitude to him as he shared this week’s choices. Then, he turned to head back to his office.
