Matthew Boyd, who accepted a position as an assistant coach in advance of the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, is back at Collingwood.
Boyd brings a wealth of experience to the Pies from his time as a player and, more recently, as a coach.
Boyd, a 2016 premiership player with 292 games played with the Western Bulldogs, started coaching in 2018 as Collingwood’s Development Coach. He was elevated to the position of Assistant Coach in 2020 and given charge of the team’s defense.
Before relocating to Perth to assume the position of assistant coach for the backline at Fremantle, the 42-year-old played for the Club for two seasons.
Brendon Bolton, the general manager of football at Collingwood, greeted Boyd.
Bolton remarked, “We are happy to have Matthew and his family back at our club.”
“Matthew began his coaching career at Collingwood and later advanced to Fremantle, where he worked under Justin Longmuir.
In addition to being a highly successful player, he was a highly respected assistant coach for six years.
“We are really happy that Matthew has joined our program, and we also want to welcome his wife Kate and their three kids.”
Boyd is scheduled to join the Club in November upon the AFL program’s return for pre-season training.
