Due to an ankle injury, Cooper Kupp had to leave the game against the Cardinals.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp is unlikely to play again after suffering an ankle injury against the Arizona Cardinals.
Whether Cooper Kupp is well enough to play or not, it would seem prudent for the Rams to bench him for the remainder of the game given that they are down the Cardinals 34-3 in the third quarter.
The Rams have already put wide receiver Puka Nacua on injured reserve and he will miss at least three more games, so if this injury has a major impact on future games, this will be a huge blow.
After a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Detroit Lions on the road in Week 1, the Rams are expected to drop to 0-2 in a rout of the Cardinals. The passing attack, spearheaded by Kupp and Puka Nacua, was thought to be one of the Rams’ strongest suit. Even though the team lost to the Lions last week, Kupp performed admirably in the absence of Nacua. I hope Kupp’s injury is not too serious. If so, more of the load will need to be carried by Kyren Williams and the Rams’ running game.
Rams’ future in light of Cooper Kupp’s injury
The Rams’ task will not get much simpler as they play the San Francisco 49ers the following week. It would be a major setback not to have Kupp for that game.
It would not be impossible for Los Angeles to bounce back from a 3-6 deficit and make the playoffs the previous season, but it would be difficult to open the season with a 0-3 record because there are not many teams that have done it.
To gauge the seriousness of the injury, it will be interesting to follow the Rams’ post-game remarks.
