Derby County benefits early from these three signings
Paul Warne of Derby County, who was promoted from League One, assembled a team of eleven players this summer in preparation for the Championship.
Derby County needed to make changes to their roster, and based on their early-season performance this year, it’s safe to conclude that their recruitment has so far looked positive.
Over the summer, a few problematic positions for the Rams were identified. With Joe Wildsmith gone and Scott Loach hanging up his gloves, the goalkeeper was an obvious choice, but midfield depth and a new striker were also vital.
Although Warne may not have assembled his dream team just yet, Derby’s bright start to the season is undoubtedly largely due to his summer arrivals.

Zetterstrom, Jacob Widell
When it comes to a goalie, Derby County supporters have rarely placed as much faith in one player as they do in Swedish stopper Zetterstrom.
The 26-year-old was the focus of a protracted transfer dispute that involved the Rams and Djurgarden of Allsvenskan until the East Midlands team finally made the announcement about a month ago.
The Sweden international, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall, is said to have cost Derby £1.4 million, the first seven-figure transfer the team has paid out since 2020.
With three clean sheets in four games, Zetterstrom has now made four appearances for the Rams in all competitions, earning a spot on the most recent Championship Team of the Week.
Kenzo Goudmijn
Goudmijn from AZ Alkmaar, an Eredivisie team, was another foreign signing that Warne made to bolster his midfield.
The 22-year-old, who at times seemed to have magic in his boots, needed a few games to adjust to his new surroundings before appearing to have settled in.
In Derby’s recent games, he has put up a pair of outstanding performances. He scored against Bristol City and Cardiff City to assist his new team record back-to-back victories.
The Dutch star, who was signed for about €820,000, or about £690,000, has received a lot of praise lately and is the only Rams player to have started every game in every tournament thus far this season.
Jackson Kayden
Jackson, who signed a contract with Derby County in July, was a remarkably underappreciated addition. Since coming to Pride Park from Ipswich Town, he has been a breath of new air.
After his contract with the Tractor Boys expired, the 30-year-old joined Warne’s team as a free agent, and he presently leads his new team in goals scored.
