Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban criticized Florida State this morning on ESPN’s College Gameday in reference to the transfers the Seminoles received from the Crimson Tide.
Nick Saban, the famed coach of Alabama football, is not afraid to voice his ideas. His new position as media host of ESPN’s College Gameday show gives him the platform to do so without fear of negative recruiting consequences.
Saban criticized Florida State and Mike Norvell on Saturday.
Saban remarked, “They have always accepted the microwave fix.” “You pick a number of guys from the site; it works and does not work every time. Each of those guys was there in the portal for a purpose.
Notably, after Nick Saban announced his retirement, five players on Alabama’s 2023 roster moved to Florida State during the offseason. After moving from Tuscaloosa to Tallahassee, RB Roydell Williams, WR Malik Benson, OL TJ Ferguson, LB Shawn Murphy, and DB Earl Little Jr. soon discovered that things are not always better on the other side of the fence.
Alternatively, as Nick Saban has stated, the area next the sewage tank is always greener.
With a tough home game against Cal on Saturday, Florida State, who has a 0-3 start to the season, might end up with an 0-4 start for the second straight season under Mike Norvell.
To Saban’s point, it is hard to imagine any of the Florida State transfers playing a significant part in Tuscaloosa this year. Although Williams played a significant role in the offense previous season, it was generally believed that Jam Miller and Justice Haynes had moved up to the starting position. Benson did not have much of an influence on the field during his visit last year.
Ferguson and Murphy served as the Crimson Tide’s career backups, and Earl Little has made the Seminoles his home, taking up a backup role that he probably would have at Alabama.
After Nick Saban’s retirement, Alabama was the target of many jokes about players leaving, yet the players who departed were mostly not position players.

Saban was glad to remind out this morning that Florida State learned that lesson the hard way.
