JUST IN: Lions set to Sign Cowboys Starter Who Plays a ‘Physical Brand of Football’

NFL

While the Detroit Lions had a strong game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 22, notching a 20-13 victory on the road, there’s always room for growth.

In anticipation of the team’s much-awaited Week 4 “Monday Night Football” game against the Seattle Seahawks, NFL analyst and expert Matt Holder is highlighting a Dallas Cowboys player who he believes might mesh well with head coach Dan Campbell of the Lions.

In a Bleacher Report piece published on September 23, Holder proposes that the Lions sign Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in 2025 free agency after identifying each roster’s top vulnerabilities ahead of Week 4.

He said, “Even if Lawrence’s sack totals have decreased recently, he is an edge-setter and plays the physical style of football that Dan Campbell loves.”
DeMarcus Lawrence Might “Make Certain Aidan Hutchinson Receives Assistance”

Pro Football Focus gave 32-year-old Lawrence’s run defense a 92.4 grade the previous year. He received 48 total pressures in 2023 as a pass-rusher.

“Marcus Davenport is just on a one-year deal, and it remains to be seen if he should be handed a contract extension in the winter,” Holder said in the article. To make sure Aidan Hutchinson has some support going ahead, Detroit should be doing its homework on this year’s defensive free-agent class.
Not to mention, during the Cardinals victory, Davenport sustained a season-ending triceps injury, as announced by Campbell during his press conference on Monday, September 23. On Tuesday, September 24, Davenport was also placed on injury reserve.

Holder mentioned the NFC North’s competitiveness in other places in the piece. 43 runs for 187 yards were gained by Detroit during their victory over Arizona. This “helps the Lions keep pace with the Packers in the NFC North, but they still trail the surprise undefeated Vikings for the early lead,” according to reports.
Holder also listed cornerback, offensive line depth, wide receiver, linebacker, and defensive tackle as the Lions’ top vulnerabilities heading into Week 4.

Holder proposed that Detroit acquire Buffalo Bills cornerback and former first-round choice Kaiir Elam, who “has plenty of talent to potentially contribute right away and be part of the long-term solution at corner,” in order to provide immediate assistance.

DeMarcus Lawrence Discusses the Cowboys’ Loss

Naturally, Lawrence is currently a member of the Cowboys. The squad is 1-2 coming into Week 4, following their loss to the Ravens in Week 3.

“It is frustrating, of sure,” he remarked following the Ravens’ defeat. It won’t be frustrating if you don’t enjoy the game. I am aware that the men in this room are avid gamers. That explains why correcting our errors from the first half made a difference in the second.

He responded, “The losing,” when asked directly what frustrates him. Playing 11-man football and not having our defensive game together,” added Lawrence. Everything is exasperating. having a strategy but not carrying it out. We will be fine once we resume playing professional football and quit little league football.

On Sunday, October 13, at AT&T Stadium, the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys will square off against Lawrence.
