Connor Roberts has “trained” this week, according to Burnley manager Scott Parker, as they get ready for their next match.
Burnley will return to action in the Championship on the road when they visit the Kassam Stadium to play Oxford United, who were just promoted. Last time out, they defeated Portsmouth 2-1 at home at Turf Moor thanks to a late goal by midfielder Josh Brownhill.
After suffering an injury during the previous international break while playing for the Wales national team, Roberts, 29, has missed their last two games. He is getting closer to returning to the field, though, and has made significant progress on his road to recovery.
According to a Burnley Express story, Parker has provided an update on his condition, saying, “He is moved further forward.” We will assess where he is this weekend and decide whether to push or not after training with us this week. He is had a nice week. We will decide on it probably by the end of the week.
Burnley’s injury advantage
Before returning to his parent club for preseason, Roberts played for Leeds United for the second half of the previous season on loan. He went on to make 15 appearances for the Whites across all competitions.
Incorporating him back into the lineup for their game against Oxford United would be beneficial because he adds experience, competition, and depth to their defensive line.
The Welshman’s long-term future is uncertain as he approaches the last 12 months of his contract, which runs until June 2025, at Burnley.
Since joining his current team in 2021, Roberts has made 93 appearances across all competitions and contributed six goals.
He began his career at Swansea City and progressed through their academy before making 152 appearances for the first team and spending time on loan at Middlesbrough, Yeovil Town, and Bristol Rovers.
Now what?
It is a good thing Burnley has not taken any chances with him lately.
They have to evaluate him over the course of the next day and see if he is ready to play Oxford United right now.
