A former tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals has joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.
The Eagles said on Thursday that C.J. Uzomah, a seasoned tight end, has returned.
Uzomah, 31, had a good career with the AFC North team after being selected by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2015 draft. Having played for the team for seven seasons, he enjoyed a breakout year in 2019 with 49 receptions for 493 yards and five touchdowns—all career highs.
In 2022, Uzomah enlisted in the Jets. He participated in 12 games for the squad last season and 15 in 2022. He was put on injured reserve after suffering an MCL injury the previous year.
The Eagles made place for Uzomah by releasing safety Caden Sterns.
Uzomah was cut by Philly in August after he had been signed by them in April. They are now returning him to them. When the Eagles and Bengals play in Week 8, assuming Uzomah has been promoted to the active list by then, it may be an intriguing revenge game.
