Although Bradley Chubb, a two-time Pro Bowler for the Miami Dolphins, has not seen any setbacks, he needs more time to recover before playing again.

Chubb will not be practicing on the field ahead of Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, head coach Mike McDaniel announced on Monday.

Bradley will not be seeing me this week, McDaniel stated. “As for the coming weeks, we will see, but I do not think it will occur this week.”

Before injuring his ACL in Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens, Chubb had started 16 games the previous season and achieved career highs in tackles (76), forced fumbles (6), and quarterback hits (22). Chubb is expected to make a comeback this season, nine months after his injury.

When asked if he expected Chubb to play in 2024, McDaniel responded, “You know how he is assaulted and how he is truly come back from a pretty bad injury, I am optimistic that I will, for sure, just because we have not had any setbacks or anything.” Although I am not sure when he will return, I can assure you that it will not be any time soon.

“He has faith in our medical personnel to ensure that they uphold his discipline in avoiding overexertion or in minimizing the amount of time he misses.”

Following Jaelan Phillips’ season-ending ACL injury, the Dolphins require edge support. With less than two sacks per game on average, the defense is in the lower half of the league.

Before the bye week, Miami signed Tyus Bowser off of the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks. Having said that, this seems like a club that could make use of Andrew Van Ginkel’s two interceptions and pass-rushing skills over the course of six weeks.

The Dolphins clearly saw what they wanted when they selected edge rusher Chop Robinson in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, even though the plan’s success is still unclear. As a rookie, he was projected to be a pass-rush specialist in a rotation with Phillips, Chubb, and Shaq Barrett, the former linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who retired in late July.

Edge rushers have accounted for three of Miami’s nine sacks. With two quarterback takedowns, Emmanuel Ogbah leads Phillips, who has one. Although Chubb’s comeback could be the boost Anthony Weaver’s defense needs, the Dolphins were dealt a terrible hand at edge rusher.

“Due to his hard work and dedication, you would not know as a teammate that he had not trained this year since he is been there for everything, made sure to be involved, and used his leadership voice for good,” McDaniel remarked. “I do not know when exactly he will return to the field, but I will be excited.”
