This former Bruins forward has announced his retirement.

Kaspars Daugavins, a former Boston Bruins forward, has announced his retirement from professional hockey.

Daugavins’ retirement is obviously surprising, considering he had a fantastic season with Michalovce Dukla HC this year, scoring six goals and 20 points in 19 games. This came after he had 11 goals and 54 points in 48 games for the Slovak Extraliga team last season. Despite his impressive play, the former Bruin has called it a career.

During the 2012-13 season, the Boston Bruins claimed Daugavins off waivers from the Ottawa Senators. He recorded one assist in six regular-season games with the Original Six. He also appeared in six playoff games for the Bruins, recording zero points.

Daugavins left the Bruins and the NHL after the 2012-13 season. The Riga, Latvia native spent the final 12 seasons of his professional hockey career overseas, playing in the Swiss National League, KHL, DEL, and Slovak Extraliga.
