This Islanders star showed the Bruins why they should aim to acquire him.
The Boston Bruins defeated the New York Islanders 6-3 on Wednesday night (November 28). While the Bruins earned two points, Islanders forward Brock Nelson did not make things easy for them.
Nelson scored two goals against the Bruins, including one that knotted the game at 3-3. In addition, the veteran forward assisted on Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov’s first-period goal. With this, he now has three goals and seven points in his past three games.
Nelson has sparked trade speculation, and the Bruins need another top-six forward, so he should be on their radar. His performance against the Bruins last night exemplified this.
Nelson is in the final year of his deal and might become available if the Islanders fail to turn their season around by the deadline. They are 8-10-5 so far this season. Despite the Islanders’ struggles, Nelson is having a terrific season, scoring 10 goals and 17 points in his first 23 games.
Nelson would be an excellent addition to the Bruins, as he is a constant 30-goal and 60-point threat. In the previous three seasons, he had at least 34 goals. In addition, he scored 69 points in 2023-24 and 75 in 2022-23. Thus, if acquired, he would significantly improve the Bruins’ forward group.
If the Bruins sign Nelson, he may be an ideal substitute for Morgan Geekie on the first line, alongside Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak. A trade for Nelson would allow Zacha to return to left wing, though the former can also play on the wing if necessary. In addition, Nelson would provide the Bruins with another significant scoring threat on their power play.
Nonetheless, with the Bruins in need of another scoring forward, Nelson is clearly one of the top talents to watch.
