When it comes to professional tennis, Carlos Alcaraz is unquestionably the next generational talent to rise through the ranks and make noise on the ATP tour.
Alcaraz won his first major in 2022, the US Open, and followed it up in 2023 with his maiden Wimbledon title.
In 2024, he went one better by winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year, gaining a slew of new admirers in the process.
Recently, Alcaraz was unable to send Rafael Nadal out into the sunset with a Davis Cup victory, as Spain lost to the Netherlands.
Alcaraz responded to Nadal’s social media post later, and it is evident that the youngster will be the heir to the master’s crown in Spanish tennis.
Alcaraz’s 2024 season did not finish well, with a Davis Cup defeat and an early exit at the US Open.
However, he will be eager to focus on 2025, and he may do a truly remarkable feat as early as January.
Carlos Alcaraz close to breaking a record held by Rafael Nadal
Alcaraz is already well on his way to achieving a number of significant career milestones, with another one on the horizon.
Nadal was 24 years and three months old when he won the US Open in 2010, becoming the youngest player to win all four Grand Slam titles.
Alcaraz presently holds the record for the youngest Grand Slam winner on all three surfaces, but another record beckons.
The 21-year-old will have three chances in the Australian Open, and if he wins in 2025, 2026, or 2027, he will become the youngest player to win all four majors.
Alcaraz could blow Nadal out of the water when it comes to Grand Slam titles
Nadal won 22 Grand Slam titles during his career, and with four, Alcaraz is well on his approach to equal that total.
What makes things even more intriguing is that Alcaraz is unlikely to face the same level of competition for his titles that Nadal did.
He played during the peak of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic’s careers, with Andy Murray tossed in for good measure.
Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner could have a compelling battle in the coming years, but aside from the Italian, it’s difficult to see where true opposition comes from.
At the age of 21, Alcaraz has already accomplished incredible things in tennis, and it will be much more astounding to see how many Grand Slam titles he will have won by the conclusion of his career.
