Rangers given green light to sign £20m midfielder in January

Glasgow Rangers could benefit from Chelsea’s bloated squad during the January transfer window.

Celtic, like Chelsea in the Premier League, are currently soaring domestically in Scotland, which is not the case at Ibrox.

Rangers are third, seven points behind Aberdeen, who are experiencing their first modest downturn under Jimmy Thelin.

TBR Football understands that Chelsea has offered the Old Firm the opportunity to sign Carney Chukwuemeka in January.

Carney Chukwuemeka offered to Scotland as Chelsea plan January exit

Chelsea intends to offload some midfielders in January, and would prefer to move Chukwuemeka over Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Chelsea have no interest in Dewsbury-Hall’s departure next month, despite the fact that Enzo Maresca believes in him and knows him well.

Instead, Chelsea is working hard to find an option for Chukwuemeka in January, whether it’s a loan or a permanent departure.

As a result, Celtic and Rangers have been offered the opportunity to sign Chukwuemeka, who cost Chelsea £20 million when he joined from Aston Villa in 2022.

It remains to be seen whether the Scottish giants are interested in a move, but Chukwuemeka is prepared to depart.

The midfielder has received offers from clubs around Europe and understands that he is not in Maresca’s future plans.

Chelsea also seeking a new club for Lesley Ugochukwu

In addition to Chukwuemeka, Chelsea is looking for a new club for Lesley Ugochukwu next month, who is currently on loan at Southampton.

Southampton have informed Chelsea that they wish to return Ugochukwu back to Stamford Bridge, but there is no clause in his loan agreement that allows them to do so in January.

Chelsea, for their part, wants Ugochukwu to play football, and since he won’t be able to do so at St Mary’s, they’re looking into alternative options for the Frenchman.

There are clearly a lot of moving parts in west London, but Maresca’s squad is beginning to take shape, and there are plenty reasons to be optimistic about the club’s future plans.
