The Atlanta Braves failed to make a long postseason run and may now face the loss of one of their top players.
This winter, the Boston Red Sox have the opportunity to acquire a two-time All-Star from the Braves.
While making offseason predictions, Bleacher Report’s Erik Beaston predicted that the Red Sox would sign Max Fried after missing out on Juan Soto.
“As for Fried, the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox are all keen on acquiring the lefty in hopes of bolstering their rotations,” according to Beaston. “Landing with them instantly improves their team and puts them in a position to make a postseason run.”
The Red Sox are in the running to sign Soto, so any trade for Fried would most likely occur after he makes his decision. This allows the Braves to lock him up before the Red Sox have a chance.
Fried has contributed significantly to the Braves’ recent success. He is a two-time All-Star and World Series winner. Last season, he posted a 3.25 ERA in 29 starts. He struck out 166 hitters last year as well.
Spotrac expects Fried to sign a six-year, $136 million contract this winter. He’s spent his entire career with the Braves and has positioned himself for a large payoff. Fried is anticipated to be targeted by several organizations, including the Red Sox. He is one of the top available pitchers. In fact, he could be the second-best available arm after Corbin Burnes.
