With a career-high 347 yards and five touchdowns from Sam Darnold’s pass, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Atlanta Falcons 42–21 on Sunday to win six straight games.
During his press conference in Eagan on Monday afternoon, head coach Kevin O’Connell talked extensively about Darnold.
Darnold is presently tied for third place in the NFL in terms of passing touchdowns (28), and sixth in terms of passing yards (3,299).
He is largely responsible for the Vikings’ 11-2 record, which is among the best in the league.
In March, Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a free agency. That means he will be a free agent once more in March.
However, would the Vikings be able to either a) sign Darnold to a long-term agreement or b) put the franchise tag on him? After the Vikings selected quarterback J.J. McCarthy with a first-round pick in April, that is still up in the air.
