The Boston Bruins are presently in a difficult situation with fiery forward Trent Frederic.
Trent Frederic had something to show to the Boston Bruins entering this season, but he has yet to do so. The former first-round pick is in the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agency (UFA) this offseason, leaving the Bruins with a decision to make.
Players entering a contract year hope to have a strong season so they can be paid, but Frederic has done everything but have a good start to the year.
Frederic has only three goals and six assists in 30 games with the Bruins, totaling 11 points. He is presently minus-10 on the season, with 95 hits. Despite a poor start to the season, Frederic has recently begun to find his groove and heat up, scoring two goals and racking up four points in his previous five games.
Frederic has been a key member of the Boston Bruins’ top-nine for quite some time, and the organization will need to make a huge choice with him soon. The Bruins will either have to sign Frederic, and if nothing happens by the trade deadline, he will most likely be moved.
The only way the Bruins will not trade Frederic is if they sincerely believe they can sign him to a contract extension; otherwise, they risk losing him for nothing in the offseason.
It’s possible that the Bruins don’t see Frederic as a long-term part of their plans, and if that’s the case, they may trade him. Multiple reports suggest that if Frederic becomes available, numerous playoff teams will be interested in acquiring him.
If the Boston Bruins are going to make the playoffs, keeping Trent Frederic would be a huge help, since he is the type of player you want on your team and adds a lot of toughness.
