2 Shocking Boston Bruins Forwards Named On NHL Trade Board

Sport

One surprising and one not-so-surprising Bruins’ forwards are on one NHL Insiders NHL Trade Board list.

We’re still a few months away from the NHL trade deadline in early March. Buyers, it remains to be seen the course the Boston Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney will choose. Sellers or stand pat. Sweeney’s decision will be made over the next few months, as his teams play on the ice.

Trent Frederic, a forward, is apparently attracting interest from other clubs this season, owing to his playing style and contract predicament. He is due to become a free agent at the end of the season, and what Sweeney decides to do with him will determine what happens to him.

Brad Marchand & Trent Frederic named to NHL trade board

Because of this, Frederic is ranked near the top of Chris Johnston’s NHL Trade Board in The Athletic, at No. 5. Sweeney must consider that he sees Frederic as a part of Boston’s future, and if the contract negotiations between the two sides fail, he cannot afford another Jake DeBrusk situation in which he loses him for nothing when there is a trade market for him.

It’s unclear what his current market is, but if there is interest, teams will be prepared to give up anything to grab the 2016 first-round choice. At this point, whether or not the Bruins are buyers at the deadline, it appears that he will be dealt.

Brad Marchand is the other Boston forward on the trade board, and it is difficult to imagine the Black and Gold even considering selling their captain. Could he bring in a good return? Yes, most likely, although he’s unlikely to wear anything other than the Spoked-B.

Finally, the Bruins roster is certain to change over the next several months, and Frederic’s name will appear more frequently. This appears to be a situation in which one of two things must be done before the trade deadline: sign him to a long-term contract or trade him.
