Derby County manager Paul Warne has addressed worries about Tawanda Chirewa’s loan term, following the midfielder’s lengthy injury problems.
Chirewa, on loan from Wolves, has made only two league games due to a ruptured thigh muscle that has kept him out for nearly two months.
After returning to training with the senior team, Warne highlighted that Chirewa must earn his place via hard effort and competitiveness. “He’s got himself back fit and now he has to get back into the squad,” Warne informed the press. “To do so, he must train better than everyone else. “He has to fight for his position.”
Warne reiterated that neither Wolves nor Chirewa’s agent had approached him about the player’s future, noting that it is too early to make choices. “It hasn’t worked out for him or for us as well as it could have, simply because he got injured,” Warne says. “But he’s here for the season and has looked good in training.”
