One former Atlanta Braves player apparently has found a new home.
The free agency market has been extremely slow recently, but a former Braves All-Star and first-round choice has found his next opportunity. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, former Braves All-Star Michael Soroka will join the Washington Nationals in 2025 after spending the 2024 season with the Chicago White Sox.
The free agency market has been rather quiet lately, but a former Braves All-Star and first-round choice has found his next opportunity. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, former Braves All-Star Michael Soroka will join the Washington Nationals in 2025 after spending the 2024 season with the Chicago White Sox.
“Free-agent (right-handed pitcher) Mike Soroka in agreement with Nationals, source tells The Athletic,” Rosenthal said.
In 2024, Soroka had a 4.74 ERA in 25 appearances for the White Sox, nine of which were starts. Over that time, he had an 84-to-44 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 79 2/3 innings thrown. Soroka also had a stunning 0-10 record in Chicago.
“Former Brave and White Sox pitcher Mike Soroka is in agreement with the Nats on a 1-year, $9 million contract, sources tell ESPN,” according to Rogers. “Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the deal.”
The Braves selected Soroka in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft, and he spent his first four seasons in the majors with them. Soroka was an All-Star in 2019, with a 2.68 ERA in 29 starts, but injuries sidelined him from 2020 to 2022.
Hopefully, the former Braves All-Star can rebound with Washington.
