Colts rushing players create impressive NFL record in narrow divisional victory

The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Tennessee Titans 38-30, thanks in large part to a historic effort from their rushing tandem.

As quarterback Anthony Richardson and running back Jonathan Taylor tore through the Titans defense, they made some incredible NFL history.

Richardson rushed for 70 yards on nine tries, while Taylor gained 218 yards on 29 attempts, making them the first quarterback-running back tandem to earn at least 200 and 70 yards in a single game.

This needs to be the Colts’ identity right now. Given Richardson’s unpredictable accuracy from play to play, the offense must be designed around the rushing attack.

Taylor was the offense’s motor against the Titans, scoring three running touchdowns for the second time in his career and the first since scoring four against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11 of the 2021 season.

Richardson earlier in the game shattered the franchise’s single-season running record and then went on to post his single-game career high.

The Colts are technically still alive in the playoff race with two games remaining, but they need a lot of support from other teams in a very slim-chance way.

In any case, it will be intriguing to see what the Colts may learn from this combo in the future.
