On Friday, the Boston Red Sox and Major League Baseball lost an important member of their family when Baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson died at the age of 65.

Henderson was a 10-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, one-time AL MVP, three-time Silver Slugger, and 12-time stolen base leader throughout his 25-year career in the MLB. He played for almost one-third of the league, spending time with the Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Anaheim Angels, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

In his second and third stints with Oakland, he played with renowned Red Sox pitcher Dennis Eckersley, who is also a Baseball Hall of Fame member who joined the Red Sox television broadcast in 2002.

After learning of Henderson’s death, Eckersley resorted to social media to express his feelings about his old comrade.

“I’m very sad about the loss of my friend, teammate and fellow Hall of Famer,” Eckersley told the press.”We were two bay area boys. I was proud to play with him. He was the greatest player I ever played with. I cherished our recent times together both in Cooperstown and at the Oakland Coliseum. My condolences to his family.”

Henderson was absolutely amazing to see, and when other Hall of Famers say someone the best player they’ve ever played with, it speaks volumes.
