Where will the Red Sox fan-favorite go?

One former Boston Red Sox fan favorite is seeking for his next opportunity in the 2025 season.

Former Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta has been in the club since his acquisition in 2020, but he is a free agent and does not appear to be returning to town. There was talk of a reunion, but the Red Sox have since brought in Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler to help steady the rotation.

There does not appear to be any space for Pivetta anymore, and it would not be surprising if he signed elsewhere. But, where is he going? Jon Heyman of the New York Post said that he “has been connected” to the Cincinnati Reds and the Toronto Blue Jays.

“The uber-talented Nick Pivetta has been connected to the Reds, Jays, and others but that QO could complicate things,” according to Heyman.

Pivetta had a 4.14 ERA in 27 total appearances last year, but he has been one of the most talked-about available pitchers this summer. Teams seem to like his appearance and advanced metrics. Plus, he is only 31 years old.

Pivetta declined the Red Sox’s qualifying offer for the 2025 season, hoping to obtain a multi-year contract after earning $7.5 million last year. With the market moving slowly, it appears that that may have been a risky move. But he still has plenty of opportunity to prove that belief false.

Pivetta hopes to find his next opportunity soon and shine in 2025.
