On Monday, BYU offensive lineman Jake Eichorn declared his intention to use the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Eichorn, who transferred to BYU from Weber State, will have one season of eligibility left at his next institution.

Eichorn transferred to BYU following his redshirt freshman year at Weber State. He participated in the program for two years at BYU. During that period, he played only 10 offensive snaps.

Eichorn was a highly sought-after recruit via the transfer portal. Following his entry into the transfer portal, he got competitive offers from Washington State, San Diego State, Utah State, Wyoming, and Liberty, among others.

As a redshirt freshman, Eichorn played 590 snaps and started eight games for Weber State’s offensive line in 2022. Before coming to Weber State, Eichorn attended Beaver High School in Beaver, Utah. He earned the 2A MVP as a senior, leading his team to two 2A state championships.

Eichorn is likely to seek a transfer to a team where he can get greater playing time. He was very effective at the FCS level, so it’s not strange that he’d be recruited by a Group of Six or FCS school.

The transfer portal closed on December 18/24. Bowl team players, on the other hand, can access the portal for up to five days after their game. Therefore, BYU athletes have until 1/2/25 to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
