Ipswich are closing in on a loan deal for a former Premier League defender.

Kieran McKenna is eager to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.

Ipswich are now in 18th place in the Premier League, and McKenna is determined to do everything he can to keep his team up.

In their most recent game, Ipswich won 2-0 at home against Chelsea thanks to a penalty from Liam Delap and a goal from Omari Hutchinson.

Ipswich will play an away game against Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

Following that, on January 12, Ipswich will host Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup third round.

Ipswich are close to signing Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta.

Mail Sport reported last month that Ipswich and Wolves have showed interest in the former Everton centre-back, who has agreed to work with McKenna.

Godfrey has only made five appearances for Atalanta and is eager to return to the club’s regular lineup.

Godfrey began his career with York City before joining Norwich in January 2016, where he played in the Premier League for the 2019-20 season.

A move to Everton followed in October 2020, with Godfrey going on to make 93 appearances for the Toffees.

He featured twice for England in 2021 as he played against Austria and Romania.
