Mahomes’ grandfather has been in and out of the hospital the last 12 months.
The choice to rest Patrick Mahomes for the Denver Broncos game may be the finest of the year for Andy Reid, as the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback will be able to visit his grandfather, who is back in the hospital.
Randi Mahomes announced on Instagram that her father is back under medical supervision, after being at home with the family as recently as Thanksgiving Day, November 28.
“Prayer warriors, please pray for my dad. He is in the hospital and is not doing well…,” Randi wrote on Instagram on December 28, just days after cryptically quoting the Bible in her Instagram Stories.
It’s unclear what Patrick’s maternal grandfather is suffering from, but based on the last year, it could be chronic or reoccurring. What we do know is that his grandfather is fairly elderly today, given that his daughter is nearing 49.

The revelation comes at a trying moment for the Chiefs quarterback, who is preparing for the NFL Playoffs while simultaneously assisting his wife with the delivery of their third child together. The 29-year-old previously stated that his sweetheart is due “any day now” and hopes that the birth takes place between January 5 and 18, when he will be off the pitch.
The Chiefs face the Denver Broncos on January 5, but Mahomes will be watching from home as Carson Wentz takes over the reins, allowing the three-time Super Bowl champion to relax and avoid injury.
It could provide him the opportunity to visit his grandfather, who lives in Tyler, Texas, where both Patrick and Randi were born.
