According to ESPN’s Pate Thamel, South Alabama has hired Jayden Everett, a Michigan football staffer.

South Alabama has handed Everett a promotion by hiring him as the running backs coach. Everett came to Michigan this season to work with Tony Alford and coach the Wolverines’ running backs.

Before moving to Ann Arbor, Everett was the running backs coach at Vanderbilt University. He has also coached the position group at Tulsa (21-22), Akron (2019-20), and Central Michigan (2017-18).

By all accounts, Everett did a good job assisting Alford in Ann Arbor. Kalel Mulling rushed for 948 yards in Michigan’s 12 games this season. Donovan Edwards had a subpar year, rushing for 589 yards, but Michigan’s offense was also hurt by a lack of a passing attack. Michigan had one of the worst passing offenses in college football and had to rely largely on their running game.

Everett will take over a South Alabama squad that finished 22nd in the nation this season, averaging 198.6 yards per game on the ground.
