Red Sox eyeing $160 million dollar superstar first baseman

The Boston Red Sox have been looking for a righty slugger all winter, but to no success.

However, it appears they may be pursuing an unexpected target: superstar first baseman Pete Alonso (via Bob Nightengale).

This individual has been on the Red Sox fan base’s radar for a time. This season, he hit.240/.329/.459/.788, including 34 home runs and 31 doubles. His availability was also impressive, as he played in every game throughout the season and joined Club 162.

If the Sox signed Alonso, he would most likely have to DH. Triston Casas, the Sox’s current first baseman, is a decent defensive player.

The Sox would then have to move Masataka Yoshida, which would require them to shop him. Yoshida is a decent left-handed hitter, so finding a suitor should be easy.

Hopefully, the Sox will consider this, as they are running out of choices for a decent right-handed bat. In terms of quality, Alonso is among the best.
