A cryptic endorsement from the three-time All-Star.
Rafael Devers created a stir among Boston Red Sox fans late Tuesday night with a simple flick of his finger on a smartphone.
The Red Sox’s three-time All-Star third baseman liked an Instagram video from the Section 10 podcast, in which all participants agree that Alex Bregman should be Boston’s starting third baseman in 2025, with Devers serving as designated hitter.
In the video, Red Sox play-by-play announcer Will Flemming expresses his preference for Bregman over Devers as Boston’s starting third baseman in 2025.
“In the post-Bogaerts period, there is no leader in the room. That, to me, is Bregman’s appeal: when he goes into a room, he immediately establishes credibility. Flemming stated. “Raffy won’t ever be the man… “I just think he kills you at third base.”
Later in the clip, Section 10 co-host Steve Perrault remarked that he would want to see Devers play designated hitter rather than first base, which could force Boston to sell Triston Casas.
“He would be so much better mentally just focusing on hitting and not having to go out there every half-inning and have to worry about getting a 120-mile-per-hour ball hit his way,” Perrault told the crowd. “And healthier!”
Are social media likes considered formal endorsements? Of course not; that is why every politician must include some form of disclaimer in their bio. However, if Devers carefully listened to the audio and opted to like the post, it may suggest one of two things.
One: he really loves the notion of Bregman moving to Boston and becoming the full-time DH. Two: he despises that idea and intends to use the tape as incentive.
Guess what? It can potentially imply nothing. However, these are the ramblings of psychologically ill Red Sox supporters in the midst of the dead of winter.
