Apology Statement from University of Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore
Dear Michigan Wolverines Fans,
I want to take this opportunity to address the recent events that have caused concern among our fans, players, and the entire University of Michigan community. As your head football coach, I fully understand the responsibility that comes with leading this program, and I want to be completely transparent in acknowledging the situation and expressing my sincere apologies.
First and foremost, I deeply regret any actions or decisions that have put this program in a difficult position. The University of Michigan is built on integrity, excellence, and accountability—values that I have always strived to uphold. If my actions or the actions of those under my leadership have fallen short of those standards, I take full responsibility.
I understand that being the head coach of Michigan Football means representing not just a team, but a proud legacy that spans generations. This program has been defined by hard work, resilience, and the unwavering support of the Wolverine family. To our passionate fanbase, our incredible student-athletes, our alumni, and everyone who holds Michigan close to their hearts, I want to say: I hear you. I know that trust is earned, and I intend to do everything in my power to regain and reinforce that trust.
My commitment to our players remains unwavering. These young men dedicate themselves to excellence both on and off the field, and as their leader, it is my duty to ensure that they are placed in an environment that fosters growth, integrity, and accountability. No controversy, distraction, or setback will ever take away from our primary mission—to develop champions in football and in life.
To the administration, the athletic department, and the university leadership, I appreciate your guidance and support as we navigate this situation. I am committed to learning from this experience, taking corrective actions where necessary, and continuing to lead with honesty and accountability.
I also want to personally thank the Michigan fanbase for your loyalty and passion. Your unwavering support fuels our program, and I never take that for granted. I understand that many of you have questions, frustrations, and concerns. Please know that I am dedicated to addressing them with the transparency and accountability that this program and university deserve.
Moving forward, my focus remains on ensuring that Michigan Football continues to be a source of pride for our university and its supporters. Mistakes, setbacks, and challenges are a part of any journey, but it is how we respond that defines us. I promise to take the necessary steps to ensure that we not only learn from this but emerge stronger because of it.
