Netflix Set to Release Documentary on Cleveland Browns’ Historic Career, Plus More Exciting Sports Content Coming Your Way
Netflix is diving deeper into the sports arena, announcing the upcoming release of a highly anticipated documentary chronicling the storied career of the Cleveland Browns. Titled “Dawg Pound: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of the Cleveland Browns,” the documentary promises to offer an unfiltered, in-depth look into one of the NFL’s most iconic and resilient franchises.
Slated for release in early July, the multi-part series will span the Browns’ journey from their championship glory days in the 1950s and 1960s, through the heartbreaks of the 1980s, the controversial 1996 relocation to Baltimore, and the team’s eventual return to Cleveland in 1999. The docuseries will also feature recent years’ highs and lows, including the playoff drought-breaking 2020 season.
Produced in collaboration with NFL Films, Dawg Pound combines rare archival footage, behind-the-scenes access, and emotional interviews with Browns legends such as Jim Brown, Bernie Kosar, Joe Thomas, and current stars like Myles Garrett and Nick Chubb. Fans will also hear from passionate members of the Browns’ loyal fanbase, affectionately known as the “Dawg Pound.”
“Cleveland’s football history is rich, painful, and ultimately hopeful,” said Netflix’s Head of Sports Content, Melissa Rhodes. “This documentary is about more than football—it’s about resilience, identity, and a city’s unwavering spirit. We believe both hardcore fans and casual viewers will find something powerful in the Browns’ journey.”
The release is part of Netflix’s growing push into original sports content, a strategy that has already seen success with titles like Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Quarterback, and The Last Dance. The streaming giant has made clear its commitment to creating premium sports documentaries that blend storytelling, emotion, and unprecedented access.
In addition to the Browns docuseries, Netflix also teased several other sports productions set to debut throughout the rest of 2025 and into 2026. Among them:
“Clutch City: The Story of the Houston Rockets” – A two-part special exploring the Rockets’ back-to-back NBA championships in the mid-90s, featuring interviews with Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, and more.
“Racing Glory: Le Mans Legends” – A high-octane deep dive into the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans, with exclusive access to teams, drivers, and mechanics.
“Beyond the Ice” – A personal journey through the lives of NHL players off the rink, focusing on mental health, family life, and life after retirement.
A yet-untitled project focusing on the global rise of African football, from grassroots to the World Cup stage, with production teams already filming across Nigeria, Senegal, and Morocco.
Sports fans have responded enthusiastically to Netflix’s expanding catalog of athletic storytelling. With streaming services competing for eyeballs, sports documentaries have emerged as a unique niche, blending the drama of sport with the depth of biographical and historical film.
“Sports documentaries resonate because they’re about more than the games—they’re about people, perseverance, and moments that define legacies,” said sports media analyst Kevin Moore. “Netflix understands that and has the platform to deliver these stories on a global scale.”
As anticipation builds for the Cleveland Browns documentary, fans in Ohio and beyond are preparing to relive the highs and lows of a team that embodies grit and loyalty. Whether it’s the heartbreak of “The Drive” and “The Fumble” or the elation of Baker Mayfield’s 2020 playoff win, Dawg Pound promises to bring it all to life in cinematic detail.
With compelling stories, iconic teams, and human drama at its core, Netflix’s sports content is not only expanding—it’s redefining how fans connect with their favorite games and heroes.
