DONE DEAL: Burnley signs a Millwall player

Soccer

With several proposals for Zian Flemming rejected, Millwall has frustrated Burnley and Scott Parker in their pursuit of the Dutchman late in the transfer window.

During Parker’s first transfer window at Turf Moor, the recently relegated team underwent a virtual rebuild as a number of high-profile players and significant earners left, with many going back to the Premier League or traveling throughout Europe for fresh challenges.

As the transfer deadline draws nearer, a few seasoned and elite Championship players have moved to or been connected to a possible move to East Lancashire as a result of this fire sale.

The offensive midfielder has emerged as one of the club’s top priorities in recent times, but despite their desire to add his creative skills to their own midfield, they have been let down by their divisional opponents.

Burnley’s further bids for Zian Flemming are rejected by Millwall

Rich Cawley of the South London Press made the initial connection between Burnley and the 26-year-old known on Thursday night, stating that they had witnessed the Lions reject an initial proposal for Flemming.

The former Fortuna Sittard midfielder was reportedly the subject of an initial loan move with an obligation to sign him permanently when the Clarets made their first offer for his signature.

And while Parker has set his sights on other targets for Deadline Day, like Jordan Lotomba of OGC Nice and completing a first-round £500,000 deal that will see Josh Laurent leave second-tier rival Stoke City, the team has continued to pursue Flemming but has not been able to convince him to Turf Moor, according to an additional update from the previously mentioned Cawley.

With barely hours left in the summer window, Cawley made the following statement via X: “Burnley have made more bids for Zian Flemming, but none at an acceptable level up until this point.”

“Millwall in strong position in that they are not under any pressure to sell their number 10.”
Burnley’s pursuit of the Championship ace left them disappointed once more.
Given how crucial Flemming is to the South London team—having made 92 appearances and contributed 31 goals—it is maybe not surprising that multiple bids were rejected so late in the transfer window after he made a club record move from Fortuna Sittard two years ago.

Burnley, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed that their attempts to sign one of the division’s top creative players have been repeatedly dashed, and that their attempts to sign Morgan Whittaker from Plymouth Argyle following several late bids have not been successful.

It’s undeniable that it would have been tantalizing to watch the aforementioned pair in a team hoping to make a run at the Premier League.

Though both of these appeared to be pipe dreams, Millwall will be quite happy that they were able to keep onto their star player. The Den is not putting any pressure on them to sell him, as the club has the option to extend his current contract until the summer of 2026.

Flemming is currently recovering from a calf issue and has not yet made an appearance for his current employers this season.
