Derby County earned a point in a tough game with Preston North End – and it was the first step on a busy ladder of fixtures.
Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström believes the point against Preston North End at Deepdale will be vital as they prepare for a hectic schedule.
Jerry Yates’ equaliser gave the Rams a share of the spoils, as he maintained his recent good form in front of goal.
At the other end of the pitch, Zetterström saw his colleagues slug it out and was impressed by what he saw in a game played under challenging conditions.
He told Rams TV, “It was a difficult one.” It is always gone from home, especially in this weather (heavy rain). We always approach contests with the goal of winning. Sometimes you do, and sometimes you don’t.
“Even though I think we’re all upset that we didn’t win, you have to look at the other side of it: we didn’t lose, and we got a valuable point away from home. The lads put in a great effort on the field.
“It’s a long season with a lot of away games, and you need to get points away from home if you want to win.
“We’re ready to return to Pride Park.” It’ll be a huge game versus Swansea. It’ll also be good to play in front of my home crowd for my first midweek game.
Yates’ equalizer came just a few minutes after Preston grabbed the lead, and it exemplified the player’s upbeat approach to his duties.
Regarding Yates’ performance, the goalkeeper noted, “It’s just not about the goals. He is constantly sprinting and working, whether we have the ball or they do. He puts forth the effort required and competes for second balls. He’s been outstanding all season, and he’s scored some very critical goals in the last few games.”
