A Tennessee Titans wide receiver could end up with the Kansas City Chiefs in the offseason.
The Tennessee Titans were hopeful that Treylon Burks, a young wide receiver, would sort things out this season. After being selected with the 18th overall choice in the 2022 NFL Draft, he was projected to become an important part of the offense for years to come.
Unfortunately, the Titans have not witnessed him develop into that type of player.
Now it appears that the two sides will part ways this offseason. Burks has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury.
Burks has most likely played his final game in Tennessee and will look for a new team in the offseason if that turns out to be true.
With that said, where may Burks wind up as a free agent? There is one team that has been identified as a potential buyer.
According to David Latham of Last Word on Sports, Burks could end up signing with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.
“Treylon Burks is anything but a safe bet, but the Chiefs could be an ideal landing spot as he recovers from his latest injury,” Latham said. “The former first-round choice should cost close to nothing, which is great news for the Chiefs, who have little cap room and numerous high-profile free agents. The team will most likely try everything it can to keep homegrown players like Trey Smith and Nick Bonito, which means they won’t have enough money to sign a big-name wide receiver. Burks is unlikely to succeed in Kansas City, but he’s worth taking a chance on a league-minimum contract.”
Clearly, if he joins the Chiefs, his future prospects are not looking good. However, playing alongside Patrick Mahomes may give him the best chance to turn his career around.
In 27 career games with the Titans, Burks has caught only 53 catches for 699 yards and one score. These results have been incredibly disappointing.
Even if he hasn’t had much success in Tennessee, it would be nice to see Burks find his footing. As long as he does not return to injure the Titans on the field in the future, there is hope that he will find success, whether with the team that picked him or elsewhere.
