Former Chiefs WR Sends A Message To KC To Sign Him Before Playoffs

NFL

Former Chiefs wide receiver Daurice Fountain, who last played for the team in 2021, took to social media to ask general manager Brett Veach to text him.

Fountain has bounced around practice squads since his release by Kansas City, most recently with the Lions. He was originally a fifth-round pick in 2018 out of Northern Iowa, and his six-foot-two frame and physicality made him an intriguing talent.

While the Chiefs have struggled at receiver this season, they are improving and should be OK. Even so, it’s entertaining to contemplate Fountain rejoining with the club for a playoff run.

Former Chiefs WR Daurice Fountain Urges Brett Veach to Sign Him

Perhaps this deal would have made sense earlier in the season, once Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown went down with injuries. Now it’s more wishful thinking than anything else.

Rice will not return, but Brown is likely to play in the coming weeks, Xavier Worthy is becoming a more regular contributor, and DeAndre Hopkins’ midseason signing leaves the Chiefs’ wideout group in good shape.

Travis Kelce has returned to his dominant form after a slow start to the year. Kansas City’s biggest issues have been offensive line and secondary tackles. At this stage, receiver is less of an issue.

Fountain has only made two catches in the NFL. He’s a practice squad player looking for job, and hopefully he’ll be able to join the Chiefs’ practice squad next season. For the time being, Kansas City appears satisfied with its current roster.

Fans have seen several receivers come and go throughout the years. Fountain was unexceptional, and there’s a reason he’s a journeyman in this league. That is nothing against him, but it appears that even if he is signed, he will not have a significant impact.

Veach is an expert at pursuing every possible avenue. If he wanted Fountain on the roster, he would have done it already.
