Birmingham City were well positioned to win an immediate return to the Championship under its magnificent American owners and the Midlands side are now interested in one of their previous stars.

Birmingham City are targeting a surprise deal for former star Nathan Redmond to boost their promotion prospects.

The Blues were demoted to League One at the end of previous season, their first under the new Knighthead ownership. Americans have recently welcomed NFL legend Tom Brady as an investor.

And Birmingham’s new owners have the team well-positioned for an immediate return to the Championship. Following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Blackpool, the team is now just one point behind the leaders in League One.

And it looks that the Midlands side is willing to invest to get them over the line. According to The Sun, Birmingham are planning an audacious move for Burnley’s Nathan Redmond.

The winger, now 30, began his career with St Andrews, making 82 games before moving to Norwich. Redmond has since played for Southampton, Besiktas, and Burnley, however he has made no appearances this season.

Redmond also has one England cap, which came in 2017. Birmingham is reportedly looking to sign him on loan.

When Redmond left the club in 2013, he gave an emotional parting statement and apologised for leaving. On social media, he wrote: “It has been a very emotional 11 years for me at Birmingham City FC, and I have cherished every minute of it.

“Coming through the ranks alongside Mitchell Hancox and Callum Reilly has been a voyage and a half that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I am going to miss it from the bottom of my heart.

“My nan who passed away last year always used to tell me ‘never forget where u have come from’ Well i came from Birmingham City FC !! ONCE A BLUE ALWAYS A BLUE … this club will remain etched on my heart and soul for life.

“I am sorry I have to go, but I am looking forward to the next stage in my career as a professional footballer. Thank you very much to my followers for supporting me on my journey from schoolboy to young professional. I will always KRO!!! x yours, Nathan Redmond x.”

Birmingham will be hoping for another good outcome next week. They travel to Crawley on Monday, a week before their Boxing Day meeting with struggling Burton Albion.
