Will the Red Sox’s rival sign the Boston fan favorite this offseason?

This offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays appear to have been linked to almost every player.

Toronto has been busy trying to sign players this summer, but has been unsuccessful so far. The Blue Jays, like the Boston Red Sox, missed out on Juan Soto and have since been linked to nearly every major free agency or trade candidate.

The Blue Jays are certainly looking to add, but who will they wind up signing? According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the team is looking at former Boston Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta.

“Jays are among many teams in on Nick Pivetta, a Canadian native,” Heyman told reporters.

This isn’t very startling. The Blue Jays have been looking to add pitching, with Corbin Burnes and Max Fried being mentioned frequently. Fried signed with the New York Yankees, and Burnes is still available, but there is competition for his services and he will be quite pricey.

Pivetta might be a far less expensive option for any team that passes on Burnes. He got $7.5 million with Boston last year and had a 4.14 ERA in 27 appearances. Pivetta experienced stretches of dominance with Boston, as well as periods of adversity.

He joined the team in 2020 and has become a fan favorite over the course of five seasons. No matter where he goes, he should achieve success in 2025 and beyond.
