Brian Schottenheimer was named as the Dallas Cowboys’ next head coach on Friday night, and it is safe to say that Michael Irvin would not have chosen him if he had been in control of the coaching search.
On Saturday, Irvin discussed the new employment on his YouTube channel, and he was undoubtedly unhappy with the state of affairs. Jerry Jones was criticized by the former Cowboys star for missing a significant opportunity with the hire.
Irvin said, “Here’s my problem: We lost an opportunity here.” “I do not know what will happen with Coach Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys, but Jerry’s a shrewd, shrewd businessman, and I am shocked he did not see this opportunity.” Irvin noted that the Cowboys have not advanced past the 1995 playoff round, and two NFC East teams will play in the NFC Championship on Sunday.
“We have two NFC East teams in the NFC Championship game being played [Sunday], all eyes on them,” Irvin stated. “The Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles, our enemies on all fronts, and they are in a position that we have not held in 30 f—ing years. The longest drought by any NFC East team, period.” The Commanders did hold the record for the longest active drought without making it to an NFC Championship until this year, but that unfortunate honor now belongs to the Cowboys. The Commanders had not made it to the game since 1991, but Washington’s appearance this year, meaning that every NFC team has made it to the conference title game at least once since 2010, with the exception of the Cowboys. Irvin believes that the Cowboys may actually begin to lose supporters as a result of their ongoing struggles.
Irvin remarked, “They have lost a generation of admirers,” “Thirty fucking years. A generation is forty years old. The critical mass was right here, right now. It was time to bring in someone who could turn things around and win this final Cowboys Nation leg.
Jones presumably has not been concerned about losing fans because the Cowboys are considered “America’s Team,” but Irvin says he should start taking it seriously.
A third of Cowboys’ country has never experienced the glory of a championship narrative and is unaware of it, according to Irvin, who stated that if we take 30 years from now, life expectancy is 100 years. “If they are unaware of something, how in the world can they pass it on? This generation has no idea what a championship from the ‘America’s Team’ would entail. Even worse, a team called the Kansas City Chiefs has completely dominated that generation.
