JUST IN: Seahawks Granted Permission To Interview QB Coach Andrew Janocko….

Sport

Andrew Janocko, 36, recently finished his first season on the New Orleans staff. Before joining the Saints, Janocko was the QB coach for the Chicago Bears from 2022 to 2023 and was an offensive assistant with the Minnesota Vikings from 2015 to 2021. Janocko is scheduled to interview for a position on the coaching staff of the Seattle Seahawks. ESPN Saints reporter Katherine Terrell was the first to report on Wednesday night that Seattle requested and was granted permission to speak to Janocko for their open quarterback coaching vacancy.

Janocko would return to Klint Kubiak the following season if he were hired by the Seahawks. Seattle just signed Kubiak, who served as the offensive coordinator for the Saints the previous season, for the same role.

In a sense, all of the New Orleans coaches have been authorized to address other teams. When a team wants to appoint a new head coach, this is typical procedure. After a 2–7 loss, the Saints sacked Dennis Allen, and they are currently interviewing candidates for the head coaching position.

In addition to losing Kubiak this summer, the Saints also lost LB Coach Michael Hodges, who left for the Cincinnati Bengals. If he is not hired as head coach of New Orleans, special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi is anticipated to sign with another team.

ESPN’s Kat Terrell continues, “The Saints would like to keep Janocko, but they have been letting more coaches interview and leave for lateral roles as they close in on a head coach.” A few position coaches were anticipating whether Darren Rizzi would be hired on a permanent basis.

Last season, the Saints finished 23rd in passing production and 21st in total offense under Kubiak and Janocko. It was a beaten team that endured a never-ending run of injuries all season long.

Together, the New Orleans quarterbacks completed 3,467 yards of passes with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, 61.7% of the total. Derek Carr, the starter, threw for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions with a 67.7% completion rate.

Carr’s ailments kept him out of seven games overall. In his place, second-year Jake Haener and rookie fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler started 0–7 games. Together, Rattler and Haener ran for 1,543 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions with a 55.4% completion rate.
