Tom Huddleston, an assistant coach for the first team, has joined Birmingham City. Huddleston left Premier League powerhouse Manchester United in July.
After a humiliating relegation in their previous campaign, Huddleston joins Chris Davies’ ambitious League One promotion prospects as they aim for an instant return to the Championship.
They have since had a strong start and are currently in second place, one goal behind leaders Wrexham on goal differential. In a fierce match on Monday night, the Blues defeated their Hollywood-owned opponents 3-1. Their commanding performance will send a strong message to the remainder of League One.
After a lengthy career, Huddlestone hung up his books and became a player coach for Manchester United’s U-21 team. To help develop and guide their talent, the Red Devils prefer to have an experienced professional on the field with their academy teams.
He has previously been signed by a number of teams, including Hull City, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Derby County.
Additional behind-the-scenes expertise at Birmingham
Even though he does not have much experience as a manager, he has played a crucial role as Manchester United’s player coach. It speaks volumes about how well regarded he is to be trusted in such a capacity for a club that takes pleasure in its young development.
Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna have both done well since leaving the Manchester United coaching staff, therefore Davies may have made a brilliant move in trying to compete with the caliber of players in his roster.
