Anthony Richardson has missed the entire week of practice, and his availability for Sunday’s game against the Giants is now in serious doubt.
The Colts’ second-year quarterback has been dealing with foot and back injuries this week. He was estimated as out for Wednesday’s walkthrough practice and then spent Thursday’s and Friday’s practices in street clothes watching.
Anthony Richardson injury
When Richardson missed a full practice week, he was inactive.
Richardson will be questioned on the game status report, which will be released Friday afternoon.
“He was just sore. Really sore all week,” said Steichen, who added that the back is affecting Richardson more than the foot.
Who is Anthony Richardson’s backup?
If Richardson can’t go, Joe Flacco will make his fifth start of the season.
This might be Richardson’s third game missed due to injury this season, and his 16th in two years since being selected fourth overall. He had completed five consecutive games since returning from a two-week benching. His two missed games this season were in Weeks 5 and 6, due to a hip issue.
It’s unclear when Richardson’s injuries occurred; he played every play in Sunday’s 38-30 victory over the Titans. Richardson played a run-focused game, attempting only 11 passes but running nine times for 70 yards and a touchdown, including a couple of punishing hits in short yardage.
“From the start of the season, you’re going to feel those hits the next day,” Richardson remarked on Tuesday. “It’s weird since I was telling my family that throughout college, I didn’t feel sore. However, the NFL is a different breed and game.
The Colts need a win over the Giants to stay alive for a wildcard spot. They could put that faith in the hands of Flacco, who is 1-3 as a starter this season with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
