After attending a training camp this summer, a former West Brom striker is currently on the move.
Dwight Gayle, a former attacker for West Brom, completed his transfer to Hibs in the Scottish Premiership.
The 34-year-old’s Derby County short-term deal was not extended, leaving him without a club. He started the previous season at Stoke City, but his contract with the Potters was shattered six months before it was set to expire.
After spending his whole career playing through different tiers of the English pyramid system, Gayle will perform outside of England for the first time. Gayle signed a one-year deal with Easter Road that will expire at the end of the 2024–2025 campaign.
“He has consistently delivered top-notch performances throughout his career and is eager to showcase his skills in Scotland. He is not the same kind of striker as the ones we have in the building right now.
He is a terrific finisher who fits perfectly in the penalty box, and we will really benefit from his experience. I am excited to collaborate with him.
During the 2018–19 season, the former Peterborough United striker scored 24 goals while on loan with the Baggies. During the summer transfer window of 2022–2023, a return to the Hawthorns was proposed; nevertheless, he chose to go to the Bet365 Stadium.
He also lists Dagenham & Redbridge, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace as his previous EFL clubs. He made 145 appearances in both the Premier League and the Championship, scoring 88 goals between them in the top two English football leagues.
By enrolling in a ten-week training program run by the Professional Footballers’ Association, Gayle has maintained his fitness throughout the summer. It was developed to enable players keep busy with the team of free agents playing friendly against football teams with scouts in attendance.
Gayle was a member of the squad that faced Cambridge United in their last game, which took place at the end of August, along with players like Martyn Waghorn, Carl Jenkinson, and Ravel Morrison.
